Critics Consensus

Like the characters at its center, Big Mouth's third season continues to grow, taking on complicated new issues with the same gross-but-utterly-empathetic eye that made it so lovable in the first place.

Critic Reviews for Big Mouth Season 3

All Critics (18) | Top Critics (6)

Big Mouth's choice to directly address toxic masculinity is welcome in part because the series draws natural connections between different kinds of intolerance -- and their solutions -- without equating them with one another.

In Season Three, the beloved animated series tackles serious conversations in a unique and intelligent way.

After two strong seasons, Big Mouth season 3 maintains its relevant, raunchy momentum.

You wouldn't necessarily expect a show with Shame Wizards and musical numbers about Florida's slide into decadence to be this thoughtful, but that's the lesson of Big Mouth: sensitivity matters.

The series is undeniably still funny while finding time to be heartfelt, but a lack of resonant concepts puts this batch a peg below the first two seasons.

So far, the compassion and humor the creators have brought to the process are making the show's growth extremely entertaining.

The bits might be better and the individual jokes might be funnier, but it's a little more scattered as a whole. Maybe that's the point. That's how the teenage brain works, after all.

[Big Mouth] continues to vividly remind its audience what it was like to be 13, but might inspire us to continue grow a little bit along with them.

Oct 7, 2019 | Full Review…

That's what makes Big Mouth such a great coming-of-age story. It's not just the raunchy humor and brilliant one-liners, although those are also exceptional.

In revisiting middle school, Big Mouth sorts through some of the heaviest cultural baggage we all acquire during those years without even realizing it.

But like the damp, demanding imaginations of its protagonists, this show never runs dry. Instead of following the didactic beats of a Very Special Episode, Big Mouth excels in setting up situations and reveling as they spiral in every messy direction.

This was the best season of Big Mouth yet. Went deeper and funnier than the first two. Duke episode is a classic. Loved Disclosure.

Nick Kroll is one of the most un-funny comedians I have ever had the displeasure to observe......reaching such dizzying heights of comedic vacuousness as Amy Schumer & Sara Silverman. And this show & season just re-enforces that sentiment.

This show keeps on getting better. Its awesome how self aware it is and mock and makes fun of other shows and celebrity at every opportunity they get!! #bigdicknick

Best season yet. Those who are saying it's "too political" have their panties in a twist.

Wow...! This show to me is just a complete masterpiece.. Honestly I really think the seasons and characters development are just getting better and better. Only part that is tad bit off of this newest season is the politics of course. But really kids that age are not that informed with the world and what's going on in society usually. Still great season!

The first and second season in my mind was an absolute masterpiece. There have only been a few shows to truly make me laugh out loud and want to rewind the part and big mouth continually did that with its first two seasons. The third season however I found myself cringing and getting more and more annoyed by the shows attempt to push a political agenda. There wasn't a consistent plot line and they spent multiple episodes going into fruitless stories and bits that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Overall this season was a true disappointment and I really hope they can change things for the new episodes coming out next year.

This season delivers exactly as it previous one did, excellently. The shows again shows its thrives as it explores new topics in the awkward life of a middle schooler (including incest?!), in a extremely funny way that leave you laughing to your hearts content. The start of the series however is slightly a bit tedious but it gets better as the season goes on. If you watched the previous seasons and liked it, you will love this one as well.

Season 3 started off so odd and weird. Got better but they could've done better.
